The discipline of business analysis has evolved significantly since its inception. Business analysts (BAs) have traditionally been relied upon to define business requirements and translate them into clear language. In the process, they have acted as liaisons between strategic and technical roles. As today’s business environment continually changes and companies adapt more Agile mindsets to get their work done, the roles of business analysts have also transformed. BAs are now key players in helping create the strategy that drives projects to succeed.

The new curriculum focuses on four key competencies of business analysis that, put together, are essential to realizing and delivering benefits and business results from project-based work:
- Enterprise Analysis
- This sub-discipline focuses on how we apply traditional business analysis skills, such as elicitation, modeling and current and future state analysis, to the entire organization.
- Strategy Analysis
- There has been a shift from BAs gathering requirements to solve a problem, to first understanding what an organization’s strategy and business needs are. Only then can they determine the best approach for solving those specific needs.
- Benefits Management
- Business analysts first look at what benefits they want to draw from the solution. After the solution is delivered, BAs can evaluate the solution’s ability to meet the intended business need and optimize the solution to make sure it stays on track.
- Requirements Management
- Requirements management is still an important aspect of a business analyst’s role, as they must manage the requirements through their lifecycle to ensure that the work being done is aligned to the solution scope.
